GMAG was formed in response to the suspension of home birth services and the wider threat to community-based, midwife-led maternity care in Gloucestershire. This page will help keep a clear public record of what is happening, what questions are being asked, and what action is being taken.
We believe women and families deserve transparent information, lawful consultation, and genuine access to safe, local maternity choices — including home birth, birth centres and continuity of care. Document 2: GMAG’s alternative proposals for restoring community birth in Gloucestershire
GMAG’s alternative proposals show that the choice was never simply “centralise or stay closed.” We put forward credible alternatives, including locality-based teams, Community Birth Champions, local continuity teams with county-wide mutual aid, and independently commissioned support to restore home birth while longer-term provision is rebuilt. The Trust’s preferred model should never have been treated as the default answer. If it is truly the safest and most sustainable option, that should be demonstrated through transparent comparison with the alternatives.
